The 2026 Grammy Awards proved to be an evening packed with surprises and pointed remarks as music's elite gathered for the prestigious ceremony. Kendrick Lamar dominated the proceedings, claiming the most trophies for the second consecutive year. On the music side of things, Billie Eilish secured Song of the Year honours for Wildflower, while Kendrick and SZA's collaboration Luther earned them Record of the Year. Bad Bunny's album Debí Tirar Más Foto claimed Album of the Year, and Olivia Dean emerged victorious in the Best New Artist category.
But with all live events, there are always plenty of surprises, and this year's ceremony was no exception. From emotional tributes to Ozzy Osbourne to Donald Trump being slammed, the Grammys had it all. Below are some of the most memorable highlights from the ceremony, held in Los Angeles.
The evening's conclusion took an uncomfortable turn when Cher appeared onstage having received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The iconic performer was being celebrated for her extraordinary career, but her presenting duties didn't quite go to plan, reports the Mirror.
In a cringeworthy yet comical blunder, she mistakenly declared the late Luther Vandross as the recipient of an honour destined for Kendrick Lamar. Whilst presenting the Record of the Year trophy to Kendrick for his work with SZA, Cher stumbled over her words when mentioning the track, which incorporates a sample from Vandross' If This World Were Mine.
Cher announced: "And the Grammy goes to ... Oh! They told me it was going to be on a prompter. Oh, the Grammy goes to Luther Vandross. Oh Kendrick, no Kendrick Lamar!" She seemed to whisper "I'm so sorry" as Kendrick and SZA made their way to the stage. During his acceptance speech, Kendrick remarked: "This is what music is about. Luther Vandross, this, this is special for me. I gotta take my time. It's one of my favourite artists of all time, and they granted us the privilege to do our version of this.
"When we got that clearance, I promise you, we definitely all dropped a tear, because we know how much him and Cheryl Lynn poured into that record. And being able to put our vocals of it, it proves that we were somewhat worthy."
Merely a year after Bianca Censori made a naked appearance on the Grammys red carpet with husband Kanye West, singer Chappell Roan and model Heidi Klum appeared determined to command attention this year with their provocative ensembles.
The 52-year-old Heidi posed for photographers on the Los Angeles red carpet last night wearing an extraordinary plastic skin-tight gown. The garment was fastened at the side and incorporated moulded breast and bottom features.
Stunned fans flocked to social media to discuss the outfit, with one questioning: "What's Heidi Klum wearing at the Grammys?" while another commented: "I just saw the video of Heidi arriving at the Grammys. WTF she was wearing, she was not able to even walk properly."
Meanwhile, Pink Pony Club singer Chappel made her red carpet entrance sporting a topless look featuring a nipple ring gown. The bold choice prompted fans to question 'Is this even legal?
Grammys host Trevor Noah didn't hold back in his opening monologue, taking a sharp jab at Donald Trump and Nicki Minaj's peculiar connection. The comedian and presenter made light of Nicki's recent endorsement of the former US president.
To the delight of the audience, he joked: "Nicki Minaj is not here, she is not here, she is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues, actually. In an impersonation of the president, he joked: " In a mock impersonation of Trump, he added: "'Nicki, I have the biggest ass, I have it, everybody's saying it Nicki, I know they say to you, but it's me, wop, wop, wop, look at it, look at it, baby.'".
Noah also referenced the release of the Epstein files, stating: "The one and only Ms Lauryn Hill will be performing on that stage tonight, which is insane when you think about it, because the last time Lauryn Hill performed at the Grammys was in 1999, you understand how long ago that was? Back in 1999, the president had had a sex scandal, people thought computers were about to destroy the world, and (P) Diddy was arrested. Boy, how times have changed."
Trump has since threatened legal action against Noah for his remarks. In a tirade, he posted: "The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer ..
"Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like I'll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty."
For Ordinary singer Alex Warren, technical problems marred his performance. The artist was visibly battling with the audio in his in-ear monitors.
Clearly exasperated by the situation, he removed one of his in-ears during the performance and subsequently shared a video on social media revealing what he could hear whilst performing.
He captioned it: "This would only happen to me," accompanied by a video playing back what he could hear through his in-ears. Nevertheless, his post received supportive comments from numerous fellow musicians.
Ryan Tedder commented: "U still killed it man- I knew it was happening the MOMENT it started... I've been there, experienced it, u crushed it," whilst Lauren Spencer Smith added: "It's not about what went wrong it's about how well you handled it for me, you sounded AMAZE and I'm confident it won't be your last Grammys performance."
Justin Bieber made his highly anticipated return to the stage, appearing in his boxer shorts and bare-chested. The singer was back at the Grammys following a four year absence but left audiences baffled by his wardrobe selection.
He performed his new track Yukon alongside a looping guitar and drum sample, with his wife Hailey Bieber becoming emotional as she proudly watched him from the audience and cheered him on. Justin's last Grammy appearance dates back to 2022.
His attire choice this year sparked debate online, with one observer noting: "Justin this is the Grammys and not the beach... just embarrassing."
A fellow commentator remarked: "He's dressed like this at the Grammys? ? So lazy."
Tears flowed amongst fans and attendees as the late Ozzy Osbourne received a moving tribute. Sharon, Jack and Kelly appeared visibly moved as their beloved husband and father was commemorated at the prestigious music ceremony, half a year following his passing.
A particularly touching moment unfolded when Yungblud honoured Ozzy whilst accepting Best Rock Performance for his rendition of the iconic track Changes, performed at what would become Ozzy's final gig last year.
He reflected: "To grow up loving an idol , who helps you figure out your identity, not only as a musician, but also a man, is something I really grateful for. But to then get to know them and honour them at their final show and receive this [his award] is something I am struggling to comprehend, we f*****g love you Ozzy."
He continued: "The last time I saw Ozzy Osbourne, he asked me if there was anything he could do for me, and that the music was enough. God bless Ozzy Osbourne and god bless f*****g rock music!"
