BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent found herself in a sticky situation as she begged for help after suffering a mortifying blunder. On Tuesday (February 3), the 54-year-old broadcaster returned to the helm with her co-host Jon Kay as they discussed the biggest news hitting the headlines. But things took an unexpected turn halfway through the BBC morning show, as they discussed an exciting Doctor Who opportunity.
This week, the sci-fi show announced that they're flogging several pieces of memorabilia from the long-running programme. This marks the first time BBC Studios has made such items available for public sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to BBC Children in Need.
Jon Kay chuckled: "It's the first time these items have gone on sale, and good news, all the profits, no matter how much they sell for - oh. Not all the profits, some of the profits, are going to Children in Need."
Sally chuckled: "We've just made it all of the profits, so there we go, now they've got to give all of the money, we've forced them. We'll be in trouble, Carol, help!" After watching the chaos unfold, the beloved meteorologist decided not to save her friends from embarrassment as she shared her excitement for the upcoming auction.
She confessed: "I don't know quite fancy the darlek or the Tardis to be honest with you," as Jon quipped: "You fancy a darlek?" as the studio groaned in response. It comes after a BBC Breakfast presenter announced that she will be bidding farewell to the show as her co-star sent his well-wishes online.
Presenter Emma Vardy confirmed that she would be leaving the show to go on maternity leave as they closed Sunday morning's episode (February 1). She said: "Right, well that's nearly it for us today. Any my last show before mat leave! Bye!"
Roger Johnson responded: "Enjoy, good luck!" Though Emma's leave has been expected after she revealed back in October that she is pregnant with her second child. She hadn't revealed how far along she was, but told followers at the time: "We're welcoming a new addition! Thrilled and beyond excited."
She added: "Little Jago is going to become a brother, and we can't wait for the next chapter." Emma posted a reel on her Instagram on Saturday that confirmed she was days away from her due date, so her final show was to be expected.
The news of Emma's departure comes days after the channel also lost another host, with Carol Kirkwood announcing she was leaving the show permanently after 28 years. She confirmed that her exit will come in April and said she has "loved every minute" of being at the BBC.
The broadcaster added: "This hasn't been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away. I'll carry with me the most wonderful memories."
