The Lincoln Lawyer season four has landed at long last but it wasn't looking good for Mickey Haller as his freedom was hanging in the balance.
Netflix's series three ended on an almighty cliffhanger as charming lawyer Mickey Haller (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) was put in handcuffs as he was suspected of killing his former client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton).
And with prison guards not playing by the rules and a prosecutor sinisterly nicknamed "Death Row" Dana (Constance Zimmer) wanting him sent down, it didn't look like luck was on Mickey's side.
Thankfully for Netflix subscribers, while it was a turbulent journey, Mickey Haller does get out of jail in the final episode of The Lincoln Lawyer season four.
He had spent a good chunk of the series working as Maggie McPherson's (Neve Campbell) co-counsel in a bid to convince the jury of his innocence.
But in the end, it was actually a backroom deal with the FBI that led to Mickey's exoneration as Sam Scales' death was linked to an investigation they were desperate to keep out of the public eye.
After previously conning Alex Ghazarian (Michael A Goorjian) at an art gallery, a trick set up by Mickey and his team in an earlier series, he and Sam began working on a bigger scam together.
They decided to defraud the US government via an organisation called Biogreen which gets subsidies for converting used cooking oil into biofuel.
Sam and Alex were making a lot of money but the former got greedy and started skimming off the top without his partner's knowledge.
However, when Alex found out, he was furious and couldn't let him get away with stealing not only from him but his Armenian mob family's backs so he had Sam killed.
Unbeknown to Alex, Sam was also acting as a spy for the FBI after they had threatened to put him behind bars for his abundance of cons over the years.
Sam was a cog in the FBI's ongoing major investigation into this biofuel scam which was being conducted all over the country by organised crime families.
As they were no longer able to trust him after Sam's betrayal, Alex's own crime family had him killed, leaving his girlfriend Jeanine Ferrigno (Emmanuelle Chriqui) fearing for her own life.
Jeanine knew all about what Alex had been up to but didn't want to testify, scared the gangsters would come after her if she did.
So the gang hatched a plan: Izzy's (Jazz Raycole) new girlfriend Grace (Gigi Zumbado) dressed up as Jeanine and was flaunted by Lorna Crane (Becki Newton) outside FBI Agent Dawn Ruth's (Sasha Alexander) office window.
Lorna phoned Agent Ruth to explain that Jeanine was going to be their next witness in court who would talk about everything she knows about the FBI's investigation into the biofuel scams.
Falling for Grace's disguise and believing that Jeanine was ready to tell all to the world, the FBI called Mickey, Maggie, Dana into the judge's office.
They desperately wanted to avoid their ongoing investigation to become public knowledge and since they were already aware that Mickey didn't kill Sam, he was fully exonerated of any crime.
It appeared that Mickey was returning to a sense of normality as he walked casually around a supermarket looking for pasta ingredients.
He noticed a woman kept staring at him but left the shop anyway until she called after him in the car park.
Then unexpectedly, she yells and pushes Mickey to get down as someone tries to shoot him but luckily, the FBI were on hand to shoot his attacker.
They had been following him as they believed Mickey's life was still in danger from the Armenian mob.
It was then in the last few moments when Mickey questioned who the woman that saved his life was and she stated that he was his sister.
So where has she been for all of these years and why is she now getting in touch with her long-lost brother?
The Lincoln Lawyer is available to watch on Netflix.
