Today, electronic devices are being used everywhere in the world. Electric cars are now replacing fuel cars. On the other hand, due to the electric era, electronic waste is also becoming a problem for the world. Many types of work are being done around the world regarding electric waste. However, Malaysia has now taken a big decision regarding this. According to this, Malaysia has completely banned the import of electronic waste (e-waste) into the country.
News agency Bernama reported on Wednesday that Malaysia has completely banned the import of electronic waste (e-waste) into the country. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Azam Baki said it has been decided to put e-waste in the “completely banned” category in the country's customs order.
He said, "This decision requires firm and concerted action by all concerned agencies. E-waste is no longer acceptable at all and should be strictly enforced involving all agencies. Earlier the country had put e-waste in the "conditionally banned except as specified" category. This gave the environment department the power to grant exemption for import of e-waste.
Many countries around the world are doing various things regarding illegal e-waste. Along with this, work is being done strictly on this. Malaysia has seized illegal waste worth $118 million in the year 2025.
Malaysia is struggling with the problem of e-waste not just today. For a long time, countries like America and Europe have been sending old electronic goods (computers, mobiles, TVs, circuit boards) to Malaysia. Many times it also happens that this waste is sent to Malaysia illegally. Till the year 2018, this waste was sent to China. However, after China's strictness, it started being sent to Malaysia. To reduce this waste, Malaysia had sent their waste back to many countries. Along with this, import rules have also been made quite strict.
