Renowned Nepali film star Sunil Thapa has passed away at the age of 68, according to foreign media reports on Saturday. His death has sent shockwaves through Nepal’s film industry and among his fans across South Asia.

Sources said the veteran actor’s health suddenly deteriorated, after which he was rushed to Norvik Hospital in Kathmandu. He was brought to the hospital in an unconscious condition and was placed under emergency medical care. Despite doctors’ efforts, his condition worsened, and he could not be saved.

Hospital officials later confirmed that Sunil Thapa suffered a heart attack, which proved fatal.

Sunil Thapa was regarded as one of the most influential figures in Nepali cinema. His acting career spanned several decades, during which he built a strong reputation for his powerful screen presence and versatile performances.

He appeared in more than 300 Nepali films and also worked in a number of Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Tamil projects. His work beyond Nepal earned him recognition among regional film audiences and filmmakers alike.

Colleagues from the film industry have paid tribute to the late actor, remembering him as a dedicated professional and a respected senior artist. Fans have also taken to social media to express grief and celebrate his lasting contribution to cinema.
