Over the years, AP Dhillon, a well-known Punjabi singer, has carved out a niche in the industry, and his songs are frequently played on our playlists as well as by Bollywood celebrities. Before rising to fame, the singer and rapper slept on the streets, worked 12 hours before attending college, and faced numerous challenges. He recently spoke about his journey during his appearance on the current episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 4.
In the episode, when Kapil Sharma asked him about the most difficult phase of his life in Canada, Dhillon shared that his struggle began the moment he landed there. He said he had nowhere to stay and only had some cash his father had given him. Without a credit card, he was unable to get a hotel room, as the staff refused his request. With no other option, he ended up sleeping outside the hotel while dealing with severe jet lag. He also recalled that his travel agent had booked a flight with five stopovers, adding to his exhaustion and hardship.
He also added how an Indian couple helped him out after seeing him sleeping on the streets. "The first night passed, the second night, when I was on the streets, an Indian girl came to me and said I didn’t look homeless and asked, ‘Why are you sleeping outside?’ I told her I didn’t have a credit card, so they wouldn’t give me a room. She went to her boyfriend and asked him to give his credit card. He came to me and said, ‘Brother please don’t steal or break anything, or they’ll charge me.’ I said, ‘No chance, bro.’ That couple was from Calagry," AP Dhillon revealed.
Then things started to get better. He worked at gas stations, convenience stores, and his last employment was at Best Buy. Besides this, AP Dhillon used to work 10-12 hours before going to college to handle his rent, food, and everything else.
Moreover, AP Dhillon has transformed the sound of current Punjabi music with multiple hit songs that have become quite popular online. He first became famous with songs like Brown Munde, Excuses, and Insane. He is well-known for combining Punjabi lyrics with R&B and hip-hop, and his hits include With You, Summer High, Dil Nu, True Stories, Desires, and Wo Noor.
