The long-running fantasy anime Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (popularly called DanMachi) is officially returning with Season 6, confirming the franchise’s continued momentum after years of steady global popularity. The announcement has sparked excitement among anime fans, as the series continues adapting Fujino Ōmori’s bestselling light novels.

Anime News Network confirmed that a sixth season of the anime has been green-lit, though details about the release date and story arc remain limited for now.

The franchise has built a reputation for consistent seasonal releases and expanding story arcs, and the new season signals the studio’s confidence in the series’ ongoing success and fan demand. While production details are still emerging, the announcement alone marks a major milestone for the long-running fantasy property.

The anime is based on the light novel series Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darō ka, written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. Since its debut in 2015, the story has followed Bell Cranel, a young adventurer in the city of Orario who dreams of becoming a hero while exploring a massive underground dungeon.

The series blends fantasy adventure, RPG-style worldbuilding, romance, and character drama, helping it stand out among modern anime titles. Over the years, the franchise has expanded into multiple anime seasons and OVAs, a spin-off series Sword Oratoria, manga adaptations and games and a feature film (Arrow of the Orion).

This steady expansion has turned DanMachi into one of the most recognizable fantasy anime franchises of the past decade.

Season 5 continued major character arcs and deepened the political and mythological elements of the world. With Season 6 now confirmed, fan speculations expect the anime to adapt later light novel arcs, which grow darker, more complex, and more high-stakes.

The later volumes of the novels shift the narrative toward large-scale conflicts between familias (guild-like groups), deeper exploration of the gods’ influence on the mortal world and Bell’s continued evolution from rookie adventurer to hero.

This progression suggests Season 6 could mark a major turning point in the anime’s tone and stakes.
