Cinema – The film industry in Nepal and India is mourning the loss of veteran actor Sunil Thapa, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 68. Known for his commanding screen presence and powerful performances, Thapa’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and admirers across the region.

Among those who expressed deep sorrow was actor Manisha Koirala, who took to social media to honour the late artist. Reflecting on his contribution to Nepali cinema and theatre, she described him as a fearless and dedicated performer whose work carried emotional weight and authenticity.
In her message, Koirala highlighted the sincerity and compassion that defined Thapa’s craft. Actor Priyanka Chopra also remembered Thapa with affection, recalling the time they worked together on the biographical sports drama Mary Kom. In the film, which chronicled the life of Indian boxing champion Mary Kom, Thapa played a pivotal supporting role.
Chopra shared that Thapa had been a source of strength for her during one of the most challenging periods of her life — the loss of her father, Ashok Chopra.
