According to the Korea JoongAng DailyHuang shared updates about his personal life and business activities in a video uploaded Feb. 5 to the YouTube channel Study King Jin Genius, hosted by South Korean entertainer Hong Jin Kyung.
Discussing his sanitary pad brand Domyway, the singer-actor-turned-entrepreneur said the company has sold over 150 million units to date.
Huang first announced plans to enter the industry following a controversy in China in March 2025 involving the alleged reuse of sanitary products. At the time, he publicly criticized the incident and pledged to build his own factory, promising to livestream the production process 24 hours a day to ensure full transparency.
He said the objective was to enable public oversight at every stage of production, from sourcing raw materials to final packaging, and to create products that young girls and women could use without safety concerns.
“I am not ashamed at all of running a sanitary pad business,” Huang told Hong. “I believe choosing this was the right decision, and I feel it’s a very good thing.”
Huang attributed the company’s lack of profitability to substantial upfront capital expenditure. He said he invested 25 billion won (US$17.2 million) to operate six production lines. Although outsourcing manufacturing would have reduced costs, he said he opted against it in order to maintain complete transparency over the production process, according to Yahoo! Life Singapore.
He acknowledged that this decision significantly increased operating expenses but said strict quality control and openness were essential to earning consumer trust.
“That transparency is exactly why consumers were able to accept a sanitary pad brand made by a man,” he said.
Despite the financial pressures of the venture, Huang described his overall life situation as “good.”
Huang, 33, debuted with EXO in 2012 before leaving the group and its agency SM Entertainment in 2015. He subsequently returned to China, where he founded his own agency and has remained active as a singer, actor, composer and producer.
Chinese media have dubbed him the “rich heir of showbiz.” The South China Morning Post previously reported that he inherited an estimated $3 billion fortune from his late father, businessman Huang Zhongdong.
Huang held his wedding with 29-year-old Chinese singer and actress Xu Yiyang last year after completing marriage registration in 2024.
