PRAN Birth Anniversary: It is the millennium year 2000. Pran was awarded the Villain of the Millennium Award by Stardust. Eighty year old Pran came on stage. All the greats stood up in his honour. During this he said something heart touching. In his address after receiving the trophy, he said that you people call me life, but my life resides in the love of you people. After hearing these words of Pran, the people present there welcomed him with loud applause. The applause continued for a long time. Yes, it was the influence of Pran, his name, work, voice, his style which reached the depths of hearts.

The interesting thing is that in the tradition of villainy of Hindi films, hardly any artist has got as much prestige as Pran. As soon as the words 'End Pran' appeared from the poster to the screen, the audience's spirits were lifted. Whatever be the story, whoever is the hero, if the villain is Pran then the film is a super hit. There was an attraction of fear even in the name of Pran. Pran means life of films. Audiences used to go to watch movies in the name of Pran. Pran used to give weight to any film with his acting, the stature of the hero also increased.

there is no second soul

It is surprising that no other person with such an influential and popular name has been seen, heard or read about. When Pran was on top among the villains in the sixties and seventies, people hated even his real name. Even his fans do not name their children Pran. The name Pran had become synonymous with hatred. But even in this hatred, there was actually hidden love of the people. The audience loved Pran's characters but did not follow his real name. It was just a coincidence. The surprising thing is that even today people do not keep the name Pran.

Ranjeet, Danny, Amjad are kept well

There were many villains during Pran's era or after him - whose names have been seen a lot in real life. No one ever hesitated in naming the villains like Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Danny, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor etc. Ranjeet played many dangerous roles on the film screen. How many rape cases are registered in the name of his characters. Because of these characters, he was equally hated. Same was the situation with Prem Chopra and Shakti Kapoor. Ranjeet and Prem Chopra have also admitted that women and girls used to move away after seeing them in restaurants and parties. But no one ever had any objection to naming their children Ranjit or Prem.

Pran also did a lot of character roles

After all, what a coincidence it is that Pran proved to be the most unique villain in terms of name. As if his name was visible separately on the screen, he remained the only one in reel and real life also. It is not that Pran played only the role of a villain. In his acting career of sixty years, he has played many character roles in about three hundred and fifty films. Sometimes he became a busy businessman father in Bobby and Alcoholism and sometimes he became a truthful saint in Sanyasi. Sometimes he was seen in the role of the fakir of Malang Chacha in Upkar and sometimes as the brave pathan Sher Khan opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Zanjeer. Sanjeev Kumar and Pran are two such actors in Hindi films whose characters and getups have different colors. The getup of the character of dacoit Raka Singh or Bhagatram Pran speaks volumes.

How did it get such a unique name?

Although his full name was Pran Krishna Sikand. There was some confusion regarding his date of birth – 22 or 12 February. Even Pran himself did not know clearly. However, on the basis of some evidence, his date of birth was fixed as 12th February. His ancestral lineage was from Hoshiarpur, Punjab. But he was born in Ballimaran area of Delhi. Father was Lala Kewal Krishna Sikand and mother was Rameshwari. There were a total of seven brothers and sisters. Father Kewal Krishna was an engineer. There was also landlordism. Hence there was a rush in the area. There was no shortage of any kind in the house. I didn't think that I would act in future. Yes, wanted to become a photographer. Also of photography. During this time, Pran played a role in Ramlila in Shimla. This was my first opportunity to act.

When I turned to films in the forties, there were many suggestions regarding the name. In those days, there was a trend of writing Kumar – Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar etc. Krishna Sikand also used to write Pran further. During this time, he preferred to write a unique name of just one word, so that it could look different and be remembered. The one who thought of this name did a miracle. A name that will never be forgotten, a name that will never be repeated. Unique name.
