As soon as Ritu Tawde became mayor, Ritu Tawde has opened a front against illegal Bangladeshis. Mayor Ritu Tawde held a meeting and said that the Health Department should seize 237 fake birth certificates issued to citizens living illegally in Mumbai within a month and should also investigate the birth certificates of hawkers.

A few days ago, Mayor Ritu Tawde had expressed her intention to take action against fake birth certificate hawkers, especially Bangladeshi hawkers. In this regard, a review meeting of the concerned officials was held in the Mayor Hall of BMC Municipal Corporation Headquarters.

On this occasion, Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi, BJP Group Leader Ganesh Khankar, former MP Kirit Somaiya, Corporator Nil Somaiya, Prakash Gangadhar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Vipin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (Public Health) Shashard Udhe, Executive Health Officer Dr. Daksha Shah along with the concerned Tehsildar, Licensing Department and Police Department were present. The concerned officials were present.

Fake certificates are being canceled

Health Deputy Commissioner Public Sharad Udhe said that 237 certificates have been canceled on the portal. However, the Mayor has also directed to register a criminal case against the concerned doctors and concerned health officials who distributed the certificates illegally. So far, criminal action has been taken against 8 people.

The Mayor has directed to take action against the remaining people also from Monday. In the case of birth certificates received late, they were distributed after 21 days and he has demanded re-examination. 2 medical officers have been suspended and action has been taken against others. He said that all the documents after January 1, 2016 will be examined.

Initially, former MP Kirit Somaiya demanded that the fake birth certificates should be confiscated and a criminal case should be registered against the concerned officials. The Mayor directed that the registration of hawkers in the city, their licenses, identity cards and residence documents should be checked immediately. The Mayor also directed that Aadhaar cards and other government identity cards of hawkers in Mumbai be strictly checked, and legal action be taken against those in possession of illegal documents.

Increase coordination between Municipal Corporation and Police Department

The Mayor also directed that coordination should be increased between the Municipal Corporation and the Police Department in this regard, in the last few years there were continuous complaints about the large number of hawkers in Mumbai and foreign nationals living and doing business illegally among them. He said that this has increased the financial pressure on local hawkers and has raised concerns about the safety of women in some areas.

Crowding, encroachment and illegal business on footpaths are creating law and order problems. In this background, Mayor Ritu Tawde made it clear that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is committed to removing encroachments and providing a safe environment to the citizens. Along with this, he also directed the concerned officers to take action in different wards.
