Google has launched a new AI feature for its users which can change the way they work. Now there is no need to read long documents, instead they can be heard. The new Audio Summaries feature added to Google Docs is based on Gemini AI and it creates short and clear audio summary of any document. The special thing is that its voice does not sound like a machine but sounds natural like humans. At present this facility is being made available only for paid subscribers.
Google has announced this new feature in its Workspace blog. The main purpose of audio summaries is to allow users to hear a short summary of a long report or document. This is not just a simple text to speech tool that reads text out. Rather, Gemini AI understands the content of the document and creates a concise and meaningful audio summary of it. According to the company, this audio is usually a few minutes long and is presented in a natural conversational style so that users can understand the information quickly.
This feature is believed to be inspired by Google's Audio Overview, which first started in NotebookLM and later came to Gemini app. In Audio Summary, the user gets many voice options like narrator, persuader and coach. Apart from this, the facility to change playback speed and skip forward or backward is also provided. Although Google did not say this clearly, it is believed that this audio summary will be based only on the content of the document and will not add any additional information from outside.
Google has clarified that this feature is currently being rolled out for paid subscribers. This includes Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Google AI Ultra for Business add-on, Google AI Pro for Education add-on as well as Google AI Pro and Ultra Subscribers. The special thing is that no separate admin control has been given on Audio Summary for organization. This update can prove to be especially useful for those professionals and students who want to understand long documents quickly and like to listen to information while multitasking.
