What is the biggest fear for the common air traveller? Perhaps his flight might get canceled at the last moment or the airline might give up. Amidst the daily turmoil in the Indian aviation sector, Akasa Air has given an assurance which can be a news of relief for the passengers. On Saturday, from the platform of 'ET Now Global Business Summit 2026', Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dubey made it clear that his company has not entered the market as an 'opportunist' but with a solid and long-term strategy.
It is often seen that when the festival season arrives or the crowd of passengers increases during holidays, many companies take aircraft on temporary lease to earn more profits. Their aim is to 'wash hands in the flowing Ganga'. But Vinay Dubey, CEO of Akasa Air, has completely rejected this idea.
He clearly said that Akasa Air does not adopt an opportunistic attitude. This means that the company does not add additional aircraft to its fleet just because demand is going to be high for a few months. This matters to you as a traveler because airlines that do not expand in a hurry have more stable management. Dubey says that he does not believe in the 'use and throw' policy of grounding or sending back planes when demand is low.
The real test of any airline comes when conditions are not normal. Vinay Dubey, while disclosing his strategy, said that Akasa Air considers 'Fiscal Discipline' as its basic mantra. Dubey said a very important thing that it is very important to create 'redundancy' for the airline. Be it additional provision of capital or money or employees. This has a direct impact on your journey. When an airline has adequate staff and funds in backup, minor operational glitches do not impact flights. This means that if any crisis arises, Akasa has a 'buffer' to deal with it, which reduces the chances of your flight being canceled or delayed.
Akasa Air started its flights in Indian skies in August 2022. From then till now the company has expanded with very careful steps. Currently, Akasa Air's fleet consists of 33 aircraft and very soon another aircraft is going to be a part of this family.
