Fans of Silent Witness are being urged to watch another forensic series that aired on the BBC back in 2021, after the latest episodes were subject to a schedule change.

The crime drama follows three female forensic professionals - Emma Hedges (played by Molly Windsor), Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) and Kathy Torrance (Jennifer Spence) as they uncover the truth of a murder case and bring a killer to justice.

Traces is set in and around Dundee, but fans may be interested to hear the majority of the BBC series was filmed in Bolton, Manchester.

The drama was written by Val McDermid and Amelia Bullmore and it follows Emma Hedges, a laboratory technician who has moved back to her birthplace of Dundee for her new job.

She also has another mission as she is in search of answers about her mother's murder.

The show originally aired on Alibi, but both seasons were later shown on BBC One, with the latest of the 12 episodes airing in 2024.

Fraser's Sarah Gordon is a professor of Chemistry at the University of Tayside and Emma's new boss at SIFA.

Spence's Kathy Torrence is a professor of forensic anthropology at the University of Tayside and a colleague at SIFA.

Fans took to IMDb reviews to share their thoughts, on the series, with craigpetterson saying: "Set in Dundee, Scotland, great performances by the cast. Keeps the viewer hooked until the end.

"Congratulations to Alibi for commissioning and producing such a high quality production in Scotland."

Barryrd added: "I was glued to Britbox watching the first season of this highly enjoyable show. This great drama consisted of several episodes and showed how a young woman, who lost her mother as a child, struggled valiantly to find out the truth of her mother's death.

"The story had me transfixed to my screen and highlighted the science of forensics which is such a fascinating part of solving crimes in the 21st century."

Bella-10103 hailed the series "addictive", adding: "Binged watched this over a couple of days, absolutely loved Traces."

Lyninbyron concluded: "I binge watched in one day. I had to! Riveting story, great cast but missed quite a bit of the dialogue due to fast, garbled lines.

"That said, I rate it a 10 for being excellently written. Series two please, can't wait. Congratulations to all involved."
