Rules of Guruwar fasting: In Sanatan Dharma, every day is dedicated to some deity or the other. Thursday has been dedicated to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. This day is also dedicated to Brihaspati Dev, the guru of the gods. Worship of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu on this day is considered very fruitful. Fasting on Thursday is also prescribed in the religious scriptures.

There is a religious belief that by worshiping and fasting on Thursday, all the troubles of a person go away. Guru Dosh also gets removed. The turmoil in marital life goes away. Married life remains happy by the grace of Lakshmi-Narayan. The obstacles coming in the marriage of an unmarried girl are removed, but some special rules for Thursday fast have been mentioned in the religious scriptures. When and how to start Thursday fast?

If you want to start the fast on Thursday, then Shukla Paksha of the month is considered the best. Thursday fast can be started from Thursday of Shukla Paksha. Thursday fast should be observed for at least 16 Thursdays. This fast should be celebrated on 17th Thursday. Lord Vishnu and Devguru Brihaspati should be worshiped as per the rituals on Thursday.

Thursday fasting rules

Do not wash hair during Thursday fast. Take bath in the morning without washing your hair. Wear only yellow or orange colored clothes during Thursday fast. Offer jaggery and gram dal to Lord Vishnu on Thursday. Be sure to worship the banana tree during Thursday fast. There is a religious belief that Lord Vishnu resides in the banana tree. Must read or listen to Thursday fast story. Also perform aarti of Lord Jupiter. Do not cut nails or hair on Thursday.

What to eat and what not to eat during Thursday fast?

Eat only satvik food on Thursday fast. Do not consume salt during this fast. Can eat rock salt. Do not eat banana during Thursday fast. Can eat curd, cheese etc. Things like buckwheat flour, water chestnut flour, orange, papaya, apple, dry fruits etc. can be eaten. Do not eat tamasic food and garlic and onion. Do not consume flour.
