Team India’s middle order batsman Tilak Verma has been seen struggling in the T20 World Cup 2026. Tilak has scored 106 runs in 4 matches but his strike rate has been only 120.45, whereas Tilak’s career strike rate is above 140. He is being criticized for playing against his style. Even advice is being given to bring Sanju Samson in his place at number-3.
The Indian team is going to face South Africa in the Super-8 match in Ahmedabad on Sunday. This is being said to be the toughest test of Team India so far. Before this big match, when Suryakumar Yadav was asked a question about Tilak’s form, the Indian captain said that he has been asked to play like this. Surya rejected the talk of bringing someone else in place of Tilak in the press conference and said that he is playing his role as per the instructions of the team management.
Left-handed batsman Tilak Verma is struggling on pitches where the ball is getting a bit more ‘grip’. Tilak has been able to hit only 11 fours and three sixes in four matches and has never looked in rhythm. Surya said on Tilak’s approach, ‘I mean I have told him, the team management has told him that he has to bat in the same way. If a wicket falls then he can definitely go into the powerplay and play his game.
Explaining the reason behind this, the Indian captain said, ‘But as soon as two wickets fall, he will have to play a little cautiously, make partnerships again, reach till the 10th over and then the bowlers will have to be aggressive to play.’
Surya further said that Tilak has set high standards for himself. In such a situation, he will not be happy with his performance. He said, ‘Obviously I am sure he will not be happy with the way he is batting right now. He has practiced a lot in the last two-three practice sessions but I am not worried about him. He has been playing very well for India at number three and I am confident that he will improve further.
