Ronnie O'Sullivan will attempt to make more history this year as he seeks to win two world titles at the Crucible within a month after signing up for the World Seniors Snooker Championship.

The 50-year-old remains one of the most competitive players on the tour, but will also square off against those who are now playing on the senior circuit. Come the spring, the Rocket will look to lift the crown for a record eighth time when he appears in his 34th consecutive World Championship.

And he will remain in Yorkshire as he makes a debut appearance in the senior tournament, which begins on May 6 and will be decided across five days.

The World Seniors Snooker Tour confirmed O'Sullivan's appearance as they said: "Widely regarded as the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figure, 'The Rocket' will headline what is set to be the strongest-ever field assembled for a World Seniors event."

He joins fellow world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham and Ken Doherty in taking part at the event.

The field will also include Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, Tony Drago, Robert Milkins, Peter Lines, Anthony Hamilton, Dominic Dale, and reigning Seniors British Open Champion Joe Perry.

Chairman Jason Francis said: “The most commercially valuable player the sport has ever seen will make his Seniors debut at the Crucible in May in an attempt to add another world title to his CV — wow! We’ve already sold more tickets than we did for the entire event last year, and Ronnie’s participation is set to drive even greater demand.”

Following the conclusion of the 2025 World Championship, rules were relaxed by the World Snooker Tour which means that professional players ranked in the top 64 who are aged 45 or older can compete on the veterans circuit.

As things stand, O'Sullivan has seven world titles. His last success came in 2022, that drew him level with Stephen Hendry’s record, and last year his efforts were ended in the last four. Prior to that he had made the quarter-finals in successive years.

Hendry has previously claimed he doesn't mind if O'Sullivan wins an eighth world title, with his greatest achievement being winning his first at such a young age.

Last year he told the World Snooker Tour podcast: “I’ve got three records which I’m really proud of. Obviously, the seventh, the youngest winner and seven centuries in a final. (Which would I keep?) I’d rather have Ronnie win eight, I think. You’re going to have to be special to win it before 21. Si Jiahui had a chance a couple of years ago, but lost to Luca Brecel. I was getting plenty of digs when it looked like he was going to beat Luca."
