Dharma Productions’ Dostana 2 has locked in its female lead. According to the latest reports, former Miss India World Sini Shetty has been cast opposite Lakshya and Vikrant Massey in the upcoming romantic comedy.

Crowned Miss India World in 2022, Shetty is set to make her acting debut with the film. Born in Mumbai with roots in Karnataka, she holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer.

With acting long being her ambition, she is said to be thrilled to begin her film journey with a marquee project backed by one of Hindi cinema’s most influential production houses.

According to Variety, the makers were considering three contenders before ultimately finalising Sini Shetty for the role. Interestingly, the female lead of the original Dostana, Priyanka Chopra, was also a Miss India World winner, and the sequel appears to be carrying forward that legacy by casting another pageant titleholder as its leading lady.

Shetty is also said to have signed a small-budget thriller alongside this project, although specifics about that film are being kept tightly under wraps.

Dostana 2 is presently undergoing a fresh rewrite, with the script being extensively reworked after an earlier version was reportedly found to resemble another film too closely.

Lakshya continues to headline the revamped project, while Vikrant Massey has stepped into the role that was initially envisioned for Kartik Aaryan. Meanwhile, Sini Shetty has replaced Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead.

The sequel is said to revolve around two siblings who end up falling for the same man, sparking a lively mix of romance and comic chaos. Packed with quirky twists and awkward situations, the film promises a breezy comedy of errors built around love, rivalry and misunderstandings.

Dostana 2 will go on floors this year and will be released in 2027.
