Viewers tuning into Saturday night's BRIT Awards found themselves rewinding the live ITV broadcast after a performance from Sombr seemed to be 'interrupted' by a stage invader. However, sources at the ceremony suggest there was nothing unplanned about the disruption and it was actually choreographed as part of the performance.

For the first time in its history, the annual celebration and biggest night in British music relocated from London, taking over the vast Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, as a capacity audience of nominees, fans and industry figures gathered to watch. As anticipated, given her five nominations, the Brits 2026 belonged to Olivia Dean, who secured Pop Act, Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year, with Sam Fender, as their duet Rein Me in triumphed over her own number one Man I Need for that honour.

Olivia delivered that very track on the evening, whilst the Brits results also delivered two victories for her duet partner Sam and Lola Young, another five-time nominee who claimed her sole trophy for Breakthrough Artist. One of the final acts to take the Brits stage this year was Sombr.

However, midway through his medley, he seemed to be 'shoved' by someone from the audience, prompting security personnel to intervene. Sombr paused his performance momentarily as the backdrop behind him came down.

Within moments, social media erupted with shocked reactions from viewers who believed someone had actually breached security and pushed Sombr on stage, reports Chronicle Live.

Yet attendees at the Co-op Arena have disclosed that Brits organisers informed them the incident was entirely staged and part of the planned performance, rather than a genuine security breach. This would explain why the 'intruder' was dressed in clothing advertising Sombr's latest single.
