A popular UK retailer says it will close one of its stores in April. Matalan is a high street staple known for its affordable fashion but the well-known brand has now announced its third closure in just four weeks. The company operates over 200 stores across the UK and, after 40 years in business, it said it would close its Colne and Carlisle stores on March 7.
Now it's announced that its Kendal store will shut its doors for good on April 7. A Matalan Spokesperson said: "Our store at South Lakeland Retail Park will close in April. Our priority now is to support our colleagues. We are working closely with all those affected and, where possible, exploring alternative positions.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed serving customers at the retail park and hope they will continue to shop with us at our nearby Lancaster store."
For customers who use this store, the closest one will now be Lancaster which is the closest Matalan store, in Cumbria reports. The Lancaster store is just 25 miles away, while the next closest store is the Barrow branch.
Matalan's full range of products is also available 24/7 via the website and app so customers can still purchase items online.
Customers of the Colne and Carlisle stores can get some of their favourite items at 50% off, with the discount being placed across its products.
Despite the closures, Matalan is planning significant investment with 40 store refurbishments planned for 2026.
The retailer completed 30 refurbishments last year as part of a £25million investment, with upgraded sites outperforming the wider network by 14% in sales.
Matalan was founded in 1985 by British businessman John Hargreaves, who named the company by combining the names of his two sons, Matt and Alan.
