Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced a farm loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh and confirmed that the Ladki Bahin cash transfer scheme will continue, while presenting the state Budget for 2026-’27, The Indian Express reported.
Fadnavis, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented a budget of over Rs 7.6 lakh crore in the Assembly.
He said the government aims to make Maharashtra a$5 trillion economy by 2047, The Hindu reported.
Among key announcements was a loan waiver for farmers under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmafi Yojana. The scheme will allow for writing off crop loans of eligible farmers of up to Rs 2 lakh taken until September 30.
Fadnavis also said that farmers who have been regularly repaying their loans will receive an incentive grant of Rs 50,000.
Besides, he confirmed that the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana will continue.
The scheme, launched in June 2024, provides a monthly transfer of Rs 1,500 to women aged 21 to 65 whose families earn less than Rs 2.5 lakh per year.
“We have made financial allocation for the coming year,” The Hindu quoted Fadnavis as saying. “A scheme will be brought out for single women, so no increase in instalment. But the scheme will continue.”
