To obtain SIM cards, these people used methods like snatching, buying pre-activated SIMs through agents and taking SIMs in their own or family's name. After this the OTPs of these SIM cards were sent abroad.
The accused used the UPI platform for money transactions, but did not withdraw money directly into their accounts. Instead, they used to get cash by transferring money through public service centers or shops, so that they could avoid the attention of the police.
Investigation has also revealed that this gang mainly included such youth who were technically competent, like mobile mechanics, CCTV operators or people related to computers. Also, those youth were targeted who were in great need of money.
