In today’s busy and stressful life, the importance of yoga and meditation is increasing day by day. There are many such postures in ancient Indian texts, which help in calming the mind. One of these is ‘Yoni Mudra’. Yoni Mudra has been considered very useful in yoga scriptures for preparation for meditation. This posture controls the senses and also provides inner peace.
Its name is taken from Sanskrit language. ‘Yoni’ means ‘womb’ or ‘original source of creation’ and ‘Mudra’ means ‘particular position of the hands’. The Ministry of AYUSH has described Yoni Mudra as calming to the mind. According to him, doing this relieves stress and gives peace to the mind, when a person pays attention to his breath, thoughts and body energy, his stress gradually reduces and the mind becomes relaxed.
This strengthens the body’s immune system to fight many types of diseases. Regular practice of Yoni Mudra maintains energy balance in the body and helps in preventing minor diseases.
‘Yoni Mudra’ is to the body’s Swadhisthana Chakra (pelvis below the navel), which is slightly above the Muladhara Chakra (located near the ‘tailbone’, the lower end of the spine). Swadhisthana Chakra is located just below the navel in our body. It is connected to our creativity and emotions and joy. This energy inspires us to move forward in life and do something new.
While doing this mudra, make a special shape with the fingers of the hands. By doing this, the body’s energy is concentrated in the lower part of the stomach. This energy activates the Swadhisthana Chakra, which removes fatigue from the body and mind.
When we do Yoni Mudra, we make a special position of the hands, due to which the energy of the body is concentrated in the abdominal area. This helps to balance, heal and awaken this energy. By practicing Yoni Mudra we connect with this power within us. This removes mental blockages and increases self-confidence.
