Kitchen Bugs Remedy: The food kept in the kitchen, especially pulses and spices, often become victims of mites and small insects due to the humidity of the changing weather. Once infested by insects, the entire pulses have to be thrown away, resulting in wasted hard-earned money. But don’t worry, you can keep them fresh throughout the year with just a few kitchen items.
As the weather changes, moisture in the air starts increasing. This moisture is the biggest enemy for pulses, rice and spices. Due to moisture, cobwebs start forming in them and mites develop. If care is not taken in time, these insects lay eggs inside the container and make the entire grain hollow. Let us know those easy tricks which will keep your ration absolutely safe.
This is the oldest and effective recipe. Add 3-4 dried red chillies or some bay leaves in the pulses and spices box. Insects cannot tolerate the strong smell of these two.
After filling the dal, place chilli or bay leaves in the middle and on the top. Their natural smell will not allow insects to come near the box. This trick works best for standing spices.
Mustard oil is a panacea for protecting pulses, especially pigeon pea and gram, from weevils.
Add about one spoon of pure mustard oil in 1 kg of pulses and mix it well with hands (to coat it). After this, expose the pulses to sunlight for some time and then fill them in an airtight container. Due to the smoothness and smell of the oil, insects are not able to grow in it and the pulses do not spoil for a whole year.
The anti-bacterial properties of Neem protect the grains from all types of infections.
Tie dry neem leaves in a muslin cloth, make a bundle and put it in the pulse box. Similarly, putting 5-6 cloves in the spices box retains their fragrance and also keeps away small black insects which appear due to moisture.
By adopting these small changes and home remedies, you can not only save your food but can also take care of your family’s health. Try these tricks today and forget the tension of insects forever.
