In fact, on Sunday, news of some militants allegedly hiding in the house of Kuki Jo Council Chairman H Thanglet came to light. Angered by this, the youth started protesting. It is said that on Sunday afternoon the mob tried to enter the Speaker's house by pelting stones. During this, the security forces present at the spot drove the crowd back from there by firing tear gas shells. After this, when some youth tried to enter the house, the police had to use mild force on them.
However, on Sunday night the youth once again tried to forcibly enter the Speaker's house. Seeing the situation worsening, the people present there fired bullets in the air to scare the crowd and make them retreat. After which the crowd ran away from there. The incident comes a day after Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh held talks with civic body Kuki Jo Parishad in Guwahati in an effort to restore trust between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
Officials further said that some protesters also created ruckus in Tuibong area near Churachandpur city. Some people expressed their protest by burning tires on the road.
