New Delhi . The romance which once touched hearts in films, today seems to be slowly fading. The magic of waiting, yearning and unfulfilled desires that was there in the old movies seems to be diminishing now. On this changing trend, veteran writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar has put forward a very interesting and logical reason which forces today’s generation to think.

In a conversation during an event, Javed Akhtar said that technology, especially smartphones, has changed the foundation of romance. According to him, real romance lies not in getting but in the hope of getting. That is, it was the wait that made love special. In today’s era, everything is available instantly and that is why the thrill of waiting is over.

He gave the example of Romeo and Juliet to explain his argument. He said that if both of them had smartphones at that time, would Romeo have stood under Juliet’s balcony on a cold night and waited for her. Probably not because he could talk in a call or message. This difference has emerged as the biggest change between today’s and old romance.

Javed Akhtar further said that earlier distance used to create attraction. When it took time to see or understand someone, imaginations were born. Those same imaginations could make even an ordinary person special. But today everything comes to light at once. There is no need for waiting or imagination. For this reason, the magic of romance which used to build slowly is now disappearing.

During this discussion, Aamir Khan also seemed to agree with him. It was clearly visible that even big names in the film industry are feeling this change. Today’s films are fast but the depth of emotions is decreasing somewhere.

Talking about work front, Aamir Khan is in discussion these days about his film Lahore 1947. Apart from this, his son Junaid Khan’s film Ek Din is also in the headlines. Although official confirmation regarding these projects is still awaited, the curiosity of the audience remains constant.

Overall, this statement of Javed Akhtar is not limited to films only but also applies to our everyday life. While technology has made life easier, it has also changed the feeling of relationships in which waiting and imagination used to play the biggest role.
