LPG Booking: New Rule Introduced for LPG Booking—Cylinders Can Now Only Be Booked After 35 Days..

Amidst a shortage of LPG cylinders, gas companies have implemented significant changes to their booking regulations. Consumers will now be required to wait longer than before to book their next cylinder. Under the new rules, no customer will be able to book a gas cylinder before a stipulated waiting period. The objective behind this move is to maintain a balanced supply and ensure the availability of gas for those in need.

The mandatory waiting period between bookings for the standard 14.2 kg domestic cylinder has now been extended. Previously, this waiting period was 25 days; it has now been increased to 35 days. This means that if you have received a cylinder, you must wait at least 35 days before you can place your next booking. Under the purview of Indian Oil Corporation, this rule will apply specifically to consumers holding a two-cylinder connection—that is, those with a 'double-bottle' connection.

Rules for Different Categories of Consumers

Gas companies have established distinct regulations for different categories of consumers. Beneficiaries of the 'Ujjwala Scheme' will now face a longer waiting period. Individuals enrolled under this scheme are now required to wait 45 days before placing their next booking. Conversely, consumers holding a single-cylinder connection will be permitted to book a new cylinder just 25 days after their previous delivery.

Regulations have been made even stricter for consumers residing in rural areas. For them, a mandatory waiting period of 45 days is now required before placing a subsequent booking. Additionally, providing a One-Time Password (OTP) at the time of delivery has been made mandatory. Furthermore, if a consumer fails to complete their e-KYC verification, their booking is liable to be cancelled.

12 Cylinders Per Year

In light of the LPG shortage, the companies have also introduced a new procedural requirement. Under government policy, every consumer is entitled to receive 12 subsidized cylinders per financial year (spanning from April 1st to March 31st). Consumers who have already exhausted their annual quota of 12 cylinders will be required to provide additional information before they can place any subsequent bookings. To do so, they must access their gas provider's mobile application and answer a specific set of questions. These inquiries will cover details such as the number of family members, the frequency of guests visiting the household, and information regarding any upcoming weddings or major events.

Based on this information, companies will determine whether or not to issue an additional cylinder to the consumer. Overall, these new regulations have been implemented to better manage gas supplies and ensure that cylinders are made available according to actual requirements. Consumers must now adhere to these regulations when booking their gas cylinders.
