The ongoing impact of tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has begun to affect major cultural events across the Middle East, including in Dubai, where this year’s Film Awards 16 were set to take place.

Originally scheduled for May 9 at the Coca-Cola Arena, the event has now been postponed, with organisers citing regional instability as the key reason behind the decision.

In a statement shared on social media, organisers confirmed that the ceremony would be delayed “due to the current situation in the region,” adding that the safety and well-being of guests, partners, and the wider community remains their top priority.

A new date and venue for the event have yet to be announced.

The postponement comes amid heightened tensions following Iranian retaliatory strikes on US bases in the region, which have reportedly resulted in casualties caused by falling debris from intercepted projectiles, as well as damage to property.

Both Dubai and Abu Dhabi have felt the wider impact of the conflict, raising concerns about the safety of residents and tourists.

At present, there is no clear timeline for de-escalation, leaving uncertainty over when large-scale international events in the region can safely resume.
