TRIBUNLOMBOK.COM, FLORIDA – The Indonesian community in Orlando held a Halal Bi Halal gathering to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. The event took place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM local time at Tru by Hilton Orlando Westwood.
The event, organized in a potluck concept, was initiated by four Indonesians: Ervinawati Elalaoui (Vina), Elisa Pulukadang (Elisa), Rebecca Bonnejonne (Rebecca), and Ayuti Ningsih (Ayuti).
They aimed to create a space for togetherness so that Indonesians living abroad could still experience the spirit of Eid despite being far from home. It is estimated that at least 150 Indonesians living in Florida attended the event.
The program was arranged with a blend of religious and family-oriented activities, including an opening session, collective prayers, Qur’an recitation, takbir, as well as interactive activities such as quizzes for children and the distribution of gifts and Eid envelopes (THR) for mothers.
A variety of Indonesian traditional dishes were also served, including rendang, gado-gado, sambal hati, chicken satay, as well as traditional desserts such as lupis and layered cake (kue lapis).
One of the event organizers, Vina, who is originally from Lombok, Indonesia, expressed that the gathering held deep meaning for her and other Indonesians living in the United States.
“This event is organized as a form of togetherness and to ease our longing for home. Being far from family makes moments like this very meaningful, as we can gather with fellow Indonesians,” she said.

Ervina also added that the Halal Bi Halal event provides an opportunity to bring the atmosphere of Indonesia to a foreign land, especially through traditional cuisine.
“We also miss Indonesian food. Through this potluck, we can share dishes and relive the atmosphere of our hometown,” she added.
The committee invited all Indonesians and friends in the Orlando, Florida area to attend and enliven the event. Celebrating Eid in a foreign country far from family encourages Indonesians in Florida to stay united and maintain strong bonds of friendship. Beyond being a social gathering, the event is also expected to strengthen relationships among Indonesians living abroad.
