An FIR has been registered against Amit Ghawte, zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai. This action has been taken after the order of the High Court. This case happened last year, when the NCB team had raided a house in Navi Mumbai. After the raid, the victim's family had made serious allegations and claimed that senior NCB officials were demanding Rs 10 to 15 crore from them. The allegation was that if he did not pay the money, he was being threatened to be implicated in a fake case.
Due to this pressure and threats, the victim committed suicide by shooting himself in his house. After this incident, the matter became very serious and judicial intervention was being demanded. Now on the instructions of the High Court, an FIR has been registered against Zonal Director Amit Ghawte in this entire matter. Police have started investigating the matter and further action is being taken. Here Amit Ghawte was appointed to this post in NCB after Sameer Wankhede.
Many provisions of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS) have been mentioned in the complaint. These include sections 108, 308(3), 352, 351(2), and 3(5). These sections broadly relate to charges related to incitement, criminal intimidation, use of force and acts committed with common intention. The inclusion of these provisions indicates that the case may involve serious allegations of coercion, harassment and conduct leading to the builder's suicide.
According to the FIR, these incidents occurred over a long period between February 2, 2025 and April 25, 2025. Despite this, the complaint was filed almost a year later, in March 2026. However, the FIR contains a clause regarding delay in reporting.
