A pub firm at the heart of a Suffolk village has collapsed into liquidation, marking a difficult moment for the local community it served. Goldings Public House Ltd, which trades as The Victoria in Thurston near Bury St Edmunds, has entered creditors' voluntary liquidation, according to a notice published in The London Gazette on 28 March 2026.

The company operates the traditional public house and formally appointed a liquidator on 26 March. Insolvency practitioner Brendan P Hogan of Cromwell & Co Insolvency Practitioners has been tasked with winding up the business following the decision by both members and creditors.

Trading from Norton Road in Thurston, The Victoria has built a reputation as a welcoming, family and dog-friendly pub, popular with residents and visitors alike.

Known for its relaxed atmosphere, the venue offers a wide selection of drinks alongside a menu of pub classics, including burgers and pizzas.

The pub also plays a central role in village life, hosting live sport screenings as well as regular events such as quiz nights, karaoke and live music. Facilities including a pool table and dartboard have helped cement its place as a social hub in the community.

While no specific reason for the collapse has been publicly detailed in the notice, the liquidation is occuring amid ongoing pressures facing the UK hospitality sector, where rising costs, changing consumer habits and economic uncertainty have forced many small, independent venues to close.

Creditors' voluntary liquidation typically occurs when a company's directors decide the business can no longer continue due to its financial position, and creditors agree to the appointment of a liquidator to oversee the process.

It remains unclear whether the site will reopen under new ownership or be sold as part of the liquidation process.
