The US is preparing a ground invasion of Iran in a move that would potentially go against previous statements made by Donald Trump. That is is according to a report from The Washington Post, citing US officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Any such operation would reportedly "fall short of a full-scale invasion", but plans would involve aids by Special Operations and conventional infantry troops. However, it remains unclear if Mr Trump would approve any of those plans. He recently claimed a ground invasion was a "waste of times" because Iran had already "lost everything", and also said: "I'm not putting troops anywhere." This comes with thousands of US sailors and marines arriving in the Middle East on USS Tripoli. The warship arries around 3,500 people, as well as strike fighter aircraft and tactical assets.
