Why Pandu Was Cursed In Mahabharata: Pandu was one of the important characters of Mahabharata, whose life changed completely because of one mistake. His story tells us that sometimes even a small decision can have a profound impact on life. Pandu was living in the forest with his two queens Kunti and Madri. One incident changed the direction of his life.
One day while hunting in the forest, Pandu mistook it for a deer and shot an arrow at it. But he was not a deer, but a sage who was living in cohabitation with his wife. Angered by this incident, the sage cursed Pandu that “Whenever you have intercourse with your wife, you will die in the same state in which I am dying.” This curse proved to be extremely fatal for Pandu, because he had no children at that time.
Pandu became very sad due to this curse and he told this to his wife Kunti. Then Kunti told that she had received a special boon from sage Durvasa. According to this boon, “they can invoke any god and get a child from them.” With Pandu’s permission, Kunti invoked the gods and was blessed with three sons, Yudhishthira, Bhima and Arjuna. Madri also used this boon and got two sons like Nakul and Sahadev.
One day during the rainy season, Pandu and Madri were walking in the forest. At the same time, Pandu could not control his sexual urges and started having sexual intercourse with Madri. As soon as he did so, the sage’s curse immediately took effect and Pandu died at that very moment. In this way a curse ended his life.
Pandu’s story teaches us how important restraint and vigilance are in life. Even a moment’s mistake can have huge consequences. This story even today inspires us to be aware of the consequences of our actions.
