Aundh: Feroze Mulani : The ‘Bakut’ (Kasata) move used in outdoor wrestling has created controversy. Originally used to unbalance and control the opponent, this move has recently become more and more common for wrestlers to get injured in the arena due to wrong punches delivered close to the ear. In the wrestling field, the demand to clarify the rules about Bakut Dava is gaining momentum. (Satara News)
Many old and effective moves are still used in outdoor traditional wrestling. Among them, ‘Bakut’ (Kasota) is currently a topic of discussion. Some say it is a very technical and skillful move, while others say it can be a dangerous blow for the players.
Recently in some wrestling arenas players have started slapping their hands close to the ear, appearing to be a “slap/slap” rather than a “slap”. Due to this, there have also been incidents of injury to competitors. Controversies are being created in the wrestling arena due to the misuse of innings.
This has also been confirmed in the recently held Maharashtra Kesari Kusti Tournament. In the final match between Mahendra Gaikwad and Harshvardhan Sadgir, Mahendra lost his composure and he hit a hard front kick (can’t be called Kasata). Back in the day, there was a huge uproar of controversy over Sikander Shaikh vs Mauli Kokate’s wrestling match in the field.
As the new wrestlers do not have the updated knowledge of how to execute this move correctly, the move is being misused in the wrestling arena. This has led to incidents of athletes feeling dizzy, suffering minor injuries and having to stop wrestling.
Although Bakut’ is part of wrestling tradition, serious consideration needs to be given to its safety. Hindkesari Vikas Jadhav said that this controversy needs to be resolved through proper training and regulations, balancing tradition and modern security. According to doctors, such blows put stress on the neck and spine. “If wrongly hit on ears, neck, long-term injuries are caused. Proper safety measures are necessary,” said medical experts.
How do you do the trick?
In traditional wrestling, a “bakut” is a move used to unbalance an opponent. It is used to quickly take down an opponent by striking the area between the neck and shoulder while gaining control while he is distracted. According to experienced wrestlers, this move is very effective if done with proper technique and balance. However, if used incorrectly by new players, the chances of injury increase.
This hideous form of outdoor wrestling must stop.
Aslam Kazi, the master of Chhatrapati Shivarai Wrestling Complex Kurduwadi, said, “Distracting the Pailwa’s target by punching between the neck and shoulder with bare hands is called kasota or bakot in wrestling parlance. Although it is originally from field wrestling, thoka is the art of hitting properly. Lately, there is a lack of patience among the budding mallas. Mallas are using the jabs wrongly in the field. This is causing controversy. They are created. The masters should give proper guidance. Basically, this move cannot be done on the mat. He has expressed the opinion that such practices should be stopped in outdoor wrestling as well.
This ploy does not work at the international level.
International Wrestling Referee Prof. Dinesh Gund said, “It is wrong to strike the neck with bare hands and it is called negative wrestling. In mat wrestling, if a wrestler intentionally hits a bow (kasata) to confuse the opponent, the referee will give the first warning to the wrestling wrestler. If this happens again, the opponent will be given a point. This maneuver is prohibited at the international level.” This information was given by Gund.
