Chinese news outlet On reported on March 28 that Angelababy appeared in a livestream promoting skincare products, showcasing items priced affordably, ranging from tens to hundreds of yuan (10 yuan equals US$1.45).
She appeared meticulously styled, wearing a custom sequin evening gown with wavy hair and light makeup. During the broadcast, she also performed simple dance moves to engage viewers.
Previously, Angelababy was among the most commercially valuable actresses in China’s entertainment market and frequently appeared on major television programs. However, a source revealed that she now faces limited work opportunities.
Her career downturn followed an alleged blacklisting starting in September 2023, after she was criticized for attending Lisa’s striptease performance at Paris-based cabaret Crazy Horse.
In November 2023, her Weibo account was restricted from posting or commenting for “violating laws and platform regulations.”
Douyin, China’s largest video platform, also disabled the “follow” button on her account, which had around 140 million followers at the time.
At the start of 2024, her social media accounts’ functions were restored. However, since then, she has been absent from film events, television shows, and promotional activities in China. Recently, she has mostly appeared in commercial events, brand promotions, and livestream sales for small, low-cost brands.
Born Yang Ying and is now 37, Angelababy has built a multifaceted career as a model, businesswoman, investor, and singer since her entertainment debut in 2007.
Her personal life has also drawn significant public attention, particularly following her highly publicized divorce from Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, 49.
The couple, who went public with their relationship in 2014, married in 2015, welcomed a son in 2017, and announced their divorce in 2022.
