Jorhat: Union Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday campaigned in Assam’s Jorhat, expressing strong confidence in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami ahead of the upcoming elections.
His visit comes as political activity intensifies across the region, with parties stepping up outreach efforts to connect with voters.
Speaking to the media, Sonowal said the public mood in Jorhat clearly favours the BJP candidate and indicated that voters have already made their choice.
“It is evident that the people have already decided that Hitendra Nath Goswami will emerge victorious,” he said.
Taking aim at the opposition, Sonowal downplayed the presence of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi in the constituency, asserting that he is “not a factor” in the contest and that the Congress stands little chance of securing the seat.
Highlighting Goswami’s track record, Sonowal described him as a committed and people-centric leader who has consistently worked for the welfare of Jorhat’s residents.
“He is a very good leader. The love and dedication he has for the people of Jorhat will certainly earn him their votes,” he said.
He also pointed out that Goswami has been elected multiple times, reflecting sustained public trust. According to Sonowal, the BJP candidate’s approach to public service is rooted in sincerity and a strong emotional connection with the electorate.
“He works from his heart and has never done anything that would hurt the sentiments of the people. The people of Jorhat have already given him a place in their hearts,” he added.
During the visit, Sonowal presented Goswami with a traditional cloth, symbolising cultural connection and public goodwill. He said the positive energy seen during the campaign reflects genuine support from voters.
“The positive vibe is coming naturally from the people. Their overwhelming support will ensure that Hitendra Nath Goswami wins with record-breaking votes,” he asserted.
