There's positive news for enthusiasts of the revived BBC crime drama, Lynley, as the second series is currently in production.
The programme launched at the start of the year, which centred on unconventional detective partnership DI Tommy Lynley (Leo Suter) and DS Barbara Havers (Sofia Barclay).
Lynley, adapted from Elizabeth George's bestselling novels, initially broadcast on the channel from 2001 to 2008.
Nevertheless, the recent revival features a fresh cast, which garnered mixed reactions when it first premiered back in January.
On the whole, enthusiasts were delighted to witness the detective drama return to screens, and it appears they won't have long to wait before it comes back, reports Mirror.
Actor Daniel Mays posted an image of the cast on location as filming for the second series commenced. He wrote alongside the post: "Fire up the Jensen!! Season 2 of #Lynley is go for launch. Cue impromptu air guitar.
"Unfortunately, when this on-set photo was taken, DCI Nies was just out of shot buying the pay and display ticket.
"Huge welcome to our new cast members. Here we go again @leo.suter @sofiabarclay and @michaelworkeye Please don't tamper with Brian's espresso machine while he's away, he's only just figured out how to use it! Thank you. See you SOOOON!"
It wasn't long before individuals commented on the post, many of them excited that the crime drama is making a return.
One individual remarked, "That's great news." Another posted: "Yay! So pleased it's coming back. Loved the first series." Another viewer commented: "Oh great, I loved the original, but these two have made it their own, cannot wait." One enthusiast added: "Couldn't be happier, so glad this will be back."
A further viewer shared: "I really enjoyed the first series. Looking forward to the second one." While somebody else contributed: "Love it. Great news. Well done to all."
However, the reboot didn't go down well with everyone as one person said: "Terrible! Slow boring story lines. Slow boring dialogue. Stiff wooden acting. All four episodes are as lame as a Lifetime movie, only worse." As someone else added: "One dimensional characters. Implausible storyline. Awful dialogue. So many great British detective series... But this is not one of them."
Additionally joining the lineup in the forthcoming series are Deirdre Mullins from Bad Sisters, Sara Stewart, who has featured in Transformers: The Last Knight, and Assad Zaman from Interview with the Vampire.
Discussing his role as DI Tommy Lynley, actor Leo Sutter opened up about his enthusiasm for portraying the iconic character.
He said at the time, "I was not aware of the books before I got the audition for the role of Lynley. But it was such a wonderful discovery to uncover the world of Lynley and the extensive material that exists. It's such a privilege getting to play a character who already has a devoted fan base.
"I was only 8 years old when the first Lynley series came out on TV, so it was a little before my time. But I really enjoyed watching Nat Parker's interpretation as part of my preparation for the role.
"But it did become clear that the Lynley version we were making was going to be quite different, not least by virtue of the fact that our show will be released 25 years later! I think it's important to pay respect and homage to the previous version but also to be brave enough to put out one's own version/interpretation of the character."
Lynley is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
