Hyderabad: Congress leader and Sangareddy district in charge Kata Srinivas Goud was placed under house arrest on Thursday, April 2, for accusing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy of corruption.
Tension prevailed at Goud’s residence at RC Puram when he was heading to the Biramguda Shiva Temple. The police arrived at Goud’s residence and put him under house arrest, anticipating that the BRS and Congress members could clash.
Visuals shared online showed police officials stationed at the Congress leader’s residence.
The issue stems from Goud’s allegation that the BRS MLA is involved in illegal mining. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Goud asked BRS leader Harish Rao not to protect his party members who are involved in illegal mining.
“I urge Harish Rao not to defend his party members, and I challenge Mahipal Reddy to come to the Shiva Temple where I will show proofs of illegal mining,” Goud said.
Before being placed under house arrest, Goud said, “I stand by my words, the MLA must come for a debate. I don’t think this should be taken as a threat to law and order.”
The BRS MLA did not respond to the challenge.
