In a startling turn of events, rapper Gucci Mane was reportedly kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint in a Dallas recording studio. This incident involved fellow artists Pooh Shiesty and Big30, as detailed by the United States Department of Justice. The 46-year-old rapper, known for his hit “I Get the Bag,” was allegedly targeted by the two 26-year-old rappers along with several accomplices. Authorities have indicated that this incident is part of a larger pattern of kidnappings and robberies, leading to the arrest of eight suspects on April 1, as reported by local media.
A complaint filed in January revealed that three music industry professionals had come to Dallas for a meeting set up by Pooh Shiesty to negotiate a recording contract. However, upon their arrival at the studio, the situation took a dangerous turn. The DOJ claims that Pooh Shiesty, along with eight accomplices, executed an armed takeover of the studio. Reports indicate that he brandished an AK-style pistol, coercing one victim into signing a release from a recording contract at gunpoint. Other suspects allegedly displayed firearms and stole valuable items, including Rolex watches, jewelry, and cash. One victim was reportedly choked to the brink of unconsciousness during the chaos. Big30 is accused of blocking the door to prevent the victims from escaping.
Following the incident, authorities executed a raid on Pooh Shiesty’s home in Memphis, Tennessee. At the time of the alleged crime, he was under home detention after serving three years in prison for a gun-related offense, having pleaded guilty to conspiracy involving firearms in violent and drug trafficking activities. The DOJ also claims that his father, Lontrell Williams Sr., was involved in orchestrating the attack. Officials have stated that the potential sentencing for those involved could range from zero to life in prison, depending on various factors, including prior criminal history. They noted that committing such offenses while on home confinement would be seen as an aggravating circumstance. Investigators also disclosed that some suspects shared images of the stolen items on social media after the incident.
