A former American soldier has been accused of committing murders for the United Arab Emirates (UAE). By doing this he has earned millions of dollars. This was revealed in media reports. According to Yemeni MP Ansaf Ali Mayo, Abraham Golan was hired as a mercenary to assassinate him in 2015. He said that this was part of a bigger effort by UAE. The aim of UAE was to eliminate those who opposed them politically.

It has been claimed in the lawsuit that he had made an agreement with the UAE, under which he used to carry out targeted killings for the UAE. For this he used to get an amount of 1.5 million dollars every month. Along with this, bonuses were also given for successful killings in Yemen. He had earned Rs 12 crore in this.

UAE's approval was received

Mayo has charged just two former soldiers and the founder of the Spear Operations group with war crimes, crimes against humanity and attempted extrajudicial killing. Golan, Gilmore, and Dale Comstock, another member of the American Special Army Forces, admitted their roles in the assassination campaign and their involvement in the attempt to kill Mayo. Golan told in an interview in 2018 that a targeted killing program was going on in Yemen. I was driving it. We made it happen. It had the approval of UAE within the alliance.

While the UAE has acknowledged supporting anti-terrorism efforts in Yemen, it denies ever targeting political figures there.

'It is necessary to be held accountable'

Mayo is not a resident of America, yet there is a law in America, which is called Alien Tort Statute. Allows foreigners to file lawsuits in US courts when international law has been violated. Daniel McGlaughlin, legal director of the Center for Justice and Accountability, said this lawsuit emphasizes the importance of holding former US military members accountable for their illegal actions. He said that our government has a duty to monitor how our former members of the military use their training and knowledge and to hold them accountable when they break the law.
