Krishi Darshan was started on 26 January 1967, which was the special day of Republic Day. This show was specially designed for the farmers to give them information about new technologies, improved seeds and modern methods to farming. Initially this program was broadcast only in about 80 villages around Delhi. At that time its objective was clearly to empower the farmers and motivate them towards scientific farming.
With time, the popularity of this show increased and it reached beyond the limited area to the entire country. Today Krishi Darshan is available not only on TV but also on digital platforms so that farmers can watch it anytime, anywhere. The show previously aired on DD National but in 2015, it was shifted to DD Kisan channel, making its focus more clearly on agriculture.
The special thing about this program is that it was not limited to just giving information but it worked to bring real change in the lives of farmers. Demonstration of new technologies and advice from experts to solve agricultural problems became the hallmark of the show. This is the reason why even after decades its usefulness has not diminished but has become stronger.
Krishi Darshan was started in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research i.e. ICAR. This initiative was part of the vision of the Government of India in which emphasis was laid on making agriculture technically strong. According to Wikipedia, this show has completed 62 seasons so far and more than 16780 episodes have been aired which makes it a record in itself.
Today, when there are countless options for entertainment, agricultural philosophy still maintains its own identity. It is not just a TV show but a trusted source of knowledge for farmers that has connected generations and played a vital role in the agricultural development of the country.
