Motorists can enjoy major savings on the price of petrol and diesel due to a major Sainsbury's benefit. Drivers can get 5p per litre discount on fuel in exchange for 300 Nectar points, which can be collected at stores including Sainsbury's and Argos.

The discount can be applied to petrol and diesel at over 1,200 Esso fuel stations across the UK. The offer will be a welcome bonus to cash-strapped road users, with costs dramatically soaring in recent weeks as the UK's fuel crisis continues to cause concern.

Esso explained: "Use your Nectar points to get a discount on fuel at participating Esso service stations. All you need to do is put a minimum of 10 litres into your car, scan your Nectar card or pay through the Esso App and you'll have the option to swap 300 Nectar points for 5p off per litre."

However, Esso has confirmed that discounts will be capped at a maximum of 60 litres, meaning motorists cannot use the offer to unfairly stock up reserves. Motorists can earn one Nectar point per litre of fuel every time you fill up at a participating Esso service station.

Road users can also collect two Nectar points for every £1 they spend at a participating Esso service station shop. Meanwhile, Sainsbury's and Argos customers can secure one Nectar point for every £1 spent on qualifying purchases in-store and online.

Esso has stressed that motorists using their phones can also take advantage of the benefit through the touch of a button.

Esso said: "Paying for fuel and collecting Nectar points is easy with the Esso App. Simply link your Nectar account to your Esso App and the next time you use the app to pay at a participating Esso service station, your points will be added automatically. You can also get 5p off per litre by swapping 300 Nectar points when you pay in store or via the app."

Petrol and diesel fuel fees have continued to soar since the end of February in a serious blow to owners of combustion vehicles.

Data from the RAC Fuel Watch shows petrol prices are up a whopping 21.6p per litre over the last five weeks, with diesel costs up an eye-watering 42.9p per litre.

It means the cost of filling up a 55-litre family car has soared, with road users likely to pay over £100 to top-up their tank with diesel.
