LPG Cylinder Price Update: To address the crisis of gas shortages resulting from tensions in the Middle East, facilities for PNG supply—serving as an alternative to LPG—have been expanded. Consequently, there has also been a surge in its demand.

LPG Cylinder Price Update: Amid escalating tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have hiked the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders due to supply shortages. The Strait of Hormuz has been closed off as a result of intense conflict in Iran. While LPG has become more expensive on one hand, the demand for PNG has risen on the other. According to data, PNG's supply infrastructure has been bolstered to serve as an alternative to LPG, aiming to mitigate the crisis of cooking gas shortages within the country. The government has encouraged gas distribution companies to facilitate the transition from LPG to PNG.

How much has the price of commercial cylinders increased?

Indian Oil has raised the price of 19 kg LPG cylinders by up to ₹218. The city of Kolkata witnessed the steepest hike in LPG prices—an increase of ₹218—bringing the cost per cylinder to ₹2,208. Meanwhile, in Chennai, the price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder rose by ₹203, reaching ₹2,246.50. Furthermore, in the national capital, Delhi, the price of LPG stands at ₹2,078.50 per cylinder—an increase of ₹195. In Mumbai, the price has gone up by ₹196, bringing the cost to ₹2,031 per cylinder.

No Price Hike for Domestic Cylinders

However, it is important to note that the prices for 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders for April 2026 remain unchanged. Last month, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) had increased LPG prices across all metro cities by ₹60—the first such hike since April 2025. Accordingly, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder remains at ₹913 in Delhi, ₹939 in Kolkata, ₹912.5 in Mumbai, and ₹928.5 in Chennai. Piped gas prices for April 2026 have also remained unchanged.
