Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 5 is set to bring a surprising twist to the beloved franchise. According to Variety, the upcoming comedy will not feature a leading heroine romantically paired opposite Ajay Devgn.
This marks the first time a Golmaal film will move away from a traditional romantic track for its central character, breaking a long-standing pattern. While Priyamani is part of the cast, her role reportedly does not involve any romantic angle with Ajay or the rest of the ensemble.

The shift stands out, considering every previous instalment had a prominent female lead opposite Devgn. Golmaal: Fun Unlimited featured Rimi Sen, followed by Golmaal Returns and Golmaal 3, both starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. The last film, Golmaal Again, had Parineeti Chopra as the female lead.
By removing the conventional love story, the makers appear to be steering the franchise in a fresh direction, focusing more on its trademark ensemble comedy and chaos.
Golmaal 5 is shaping up to be the most ambitious instalment in the franchise so far. Ajay Devgn returns alongside familiar faces like Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade, setting the stage for another dose of chaos and comedy. Adding to the excitement, Sharman Joshi makes his return to the series, while Akshay Kumar joins the ensemble in a negative comic role, bringing a fresh twist to the dynamic.

The film is expected to go bigger not just in scale but also in its brand of madness, moving beyond the usual prank-driven humour to explore a more expansive and inventive narrative.
Interestingly, the Golmaal saga completes 20 years this year, having earned over ₹600 crore worldwide across its four films so far. With shooting already underway, Golmaal 5 is currently targeting a theatrical release in early 2027.
Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn is also preparing for Drishyam 3, which is slated for release on October 2 this year.
