The Defense Industrial Corridor being built in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh has gained great momentum. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday handed over the allotment letter of 75 hectares of land to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain was also present on this occasion. According to the government, this step is considered important in the development of Chitrakoot Defense Node.
BEL will set up a state-of-the-art defense manufacturing unit here by investing about Rs 562.5 crore. Radar and air defense systems will be prepared in this unit. This will provide direct employment to more than 300 people, while more indirect employment opportunities will be created in the surrounding areas.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that this project will give a new impetus to industrial development in the Bundelkhand region. Migration will also reduce if local youth get employment in their own areas. He also said that Chitrakoot, which till now was known for its religious and cultural identity, is now emerging as a major center of defense manufacturing.
The government believes that this project will strengthen the Self-reliant India mission. Manufacturing of defense equipment in the country will reduce dependence on imports and promote indigenous technology. Besides, this project will also benefit small and medium industries (MSME) and will open avenues for new investment. BEL's entry in Chitrakoot Defense Node is being considered a big step towards giving Uttar Pradesh a strong identity in the field of defense production.
