New Delhi: BMW is getting ready to bring a new version of its iX3 electric SUV to India, but not the regular one. This will be the long-wheelbase (LWB) version, which basically means more space inside, especially at the rear. The standard iX3 was shown in 2025 under BMW’s Neue Klasse EV line-up, and the longer version is expected to arrive here in 2027.
The move is not surprising. In India’s luxury car market, rear seat comfort is becoming a bigger deal than before. A lot of buyers in this segment are not always behind the wheel, so space and comfort at the back now matter just as much as performance or features.

BMW iX3 LWB
The biggest change here is simple, it’s longer. The distance between the front and rear wheels has been increased by 108mm, taking the total wheelbase to 3,006mm. That might not sound like a lot on paper, but inside the cabin, it should make a noticeable difference.
Rear passengers should get more legroom, and overall comfort is expected to improve. BMW will also likely tweak the suspension setup for Indian roads, which usually means a slightly softer and more comfortable ride.
Under the skin, though, things are expected to stay the same. It should come with the same battery and dual-motor setup as the standard version, delivering 469hp and 645Nm. The claimed range goes up to 805km (WLTP), and charging options are expected to remain unchanged.

BMW iX3 LWB
Long-wheelbase cars have been around for a while in markets like China, where buyers prefer being chauffeured. That same thinking is slowly catching on in India. People are now willing to spend more for extra legroom and a more relaxed rear seat experience.
This trend picked up when Mercedes-Benz introduced the long-wheelbase E-Class in India back in 2018. BMW joined in a few years later with the 3 Series Gran Limousine. Since then, it has been expanding its LWB line-up with models like the 5 Series, iX1 and 7 Series. Another one, based on the i5, is also expected later.
For BMW, bringing an LWB version of the iX3 is just the next step, especially since buyers in this segment now expect that extra space.
In terms of looks, don’t expect major changes. The LWB version should look almost the same as the standard iX3, with sharp lighting elements, a clean body design and a sporty touch overall. The only clear visual difference will be the longer rear doors.
Inside, the layout is also likely to be carried over. This includes a wide digital display setup, a large infotainment screen, and a minimal design theme. Features like a panoramic glass roof and multiple interior finish options are also expected to be on offer.
