Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar starred with the bat before Rashid Khan delivered a match-winning spell as Gujarat Titans edged Delhi Capitals by a thrilling one run in an Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
Defending a challenging total of 210, Rashid turned the contest in Gujarat’s favour with an outstanding spell of 3 for 17, striking at crucial junctures to derail a strong Delhi chase led by KL Rahul.
Chasing 211, Delhi Capitals appeared firmly in control for most of the innings. KL Rahul led from the front with a brilliant 92 off 52 balls, while Pathum Nissanka contributed a quick 41, helping the hosts to a solid 76-run opening partnership. Delhi reached 101 for one and looked set for victory before Rashid sparked a dramatic collapse.
The Afghan spinner struck twice in consecutive deliveries, removing Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi — the latter dismissed for a golden duck. He later sent back captain Axar Patel, shifting momentum decisively towards Gujarat.
Despite the setbacks, Rahul held the innings together with a composed knock, keeping the required rate within reach. However, a crucial mix-up resulted in Tristan Stubbs being run out, and Rahul’s dismissal in the 17th over — edging a wide yorker from Mohammed Siraj — left Delhi needing a late push.
David Miller kept hopes alive with a powerful unbeaten 41 off 20 balls, smashing three sixes to take the match down to the final over.
The last over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, was packed with drama. Vipraj Nigam hit a boundary but was caught by Shubman Gill while attempting another big shot. Miller then launched a massive six, leaving Delhi needing two runs off the final ball.
In a nail-biting finish, Miller missed a slower short delivery and attempted a desperate run. Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler gathered the ball cleanly and hit the stumps directly to run out Kuldeep Yadav. A brief review for a possible wide added tension, but the delivery was adjudged fair, sealing a memorable win for Gujarat Titans.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted an imposing 210 for four, thanks to a strong batting display. Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a well-crafted 70 off 45 balls, accelerating in the middle overs before being dismissed in the 18th over by Lungi Ngidi.
Jos Buttler provided an explosive start with a quickfire 52 off 27 balls during the powerplay, while Washington Sundar impressed with a fluent 55 off 32 balls, registering his maiden IPL fifty and helping push the total past 200.
For Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav took one each but struggled to contain the flow of runs. A late cameo from Glenn Phillips ensured Gujarat finished strongly and set a daunting target.
