Till now, to talk to someone on WhatsApp, users had to share their mobile number, which was a cause of inconvenience for many. According to a recent report, WhatsApp is going to introduce a new feature, which will allow users to connect with each other only through username without giving their number.

According to information provided by WABetaInfo, this new feature is gradually being made available to users globally. Under this feature, users will be able to set a unique username, just like it is done on Instagram. This will allow users to chat without sharing the number. The good thing is that this feature will work on both iOS and Android platforms.

Rules and essentials of WhatsApp Username

• Username must contain at least one letter (a-z). Small letters, numbers, dot (.) and underscore (_) can be used in this.
• Username length must be between 3 to 35 characters.
• Username ‘www.’ Cannot start with and cannot end with words like ‘.com’ or ‘.net’.

How to create a username on WhatsApp?

• First of all, open WhatsApp app in your Android phone or iPhone.
• If you have Android, tap the three dots menu above. Whereas, if you have an iPhone, tap on your profile photo. This will take you directly to the ‘You’ tab.
• Now go to Settings and click on your profile name.
• Here you will see the option of Username.
• Now enter whatever username you want to keep.
• That’s it, it’s done. Now you can share your username to talk to anyone without sharing your number.
