It is very rare to see any bilateral series being played during IPL. But this time Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to play a series between the world's biggest cricket leagues. Bangladesh team is going to face New Zealand. ODI and T20 series will be played between the two teams, which will start from April 17. The schedule of the series has already been announced. But now Bangladesh Cricket Board has made a big change.
This will be a white-ball series between Bangladesh and New Zealand, which will include 3 ODI Internationals and 3 T20 matches. Apart from this, Bangladesh women's team will also host Sri Lankan women's team during the same period. There will also be 3 ODI and 3 T20I matches in the women's series. But Bangladesh Cricket Board has changed the timing of matches of men's and women's teams to support energy saving initiatives in the country. This decision has been taken with the aim of saving electricity and improving energy management.
All the three ODI matches to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram were to be played in day-night format, but now the Cricket Board has announced to extend the timing of the matches by three hours. ODI matches will now start at 11 am local time, allowing matches to end before sunset, which is around 6:30 pm at this time of the year. The Cricket Board hopes that this will save at least four hours in electricity consumption. At the same time, men's T20 matches will start at 2 pm and the target is to end by 5:10 pm.
The matches of the women's T20 series will be played in Sylhet on 28th and 30th April and 2nd May, which will start at 1.30 pm instead of 6 pm. At the same time, ODIs will also be played during day time only. The demand for electricity increases during the summer season in Bangladesh, so the board has decided to contribute to this initiative of the country by adjusting the timing of cricket matches. However, this change will also affect the players, staff and fans. There is a possibility of heat in the afternoon matches.
