A celebrated comedy-drama series boasting a distinguished ensemble of familiar faces is finally set to arrive on British screens.

American Classic features Kevin Kline as declining Broadway performer Richard Bean, who returns to his childhood home following a humiliating public breakdown.

Upon reuniting with his former girlfriend Kristen (portrayed by Laura Linney), who is now the town mayor and wed to his brother, Jon (Jon Tenney), he also rekindles his connection with the cherished family theatre where his aspirations of stardom were fostered.

Following its American premiere at the start of last month, the highly praised new series devised by Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin will launch on MGM+, which you can access as a Prime Video add-on, this Saturday, 11th April.

Two episodes will become available, followed by weekly instalments leading up to the finale on Saturday, 23rd May. Alongside the principal trio, the series also features Blue Bloods and Broadway legend Len Cariou, Thanksgiving star Nell Verlaque, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Tony Shalhoub.

If you're still undecided about whether or not to watch, the series has already been garnering enthusiastic responses from American viewers who have been following it.

One 10/10 review from an IMDb user described American Classic "a standout show", noting: "The acting, writing and story are all so wonderfully done, capturing the spirit of the theatre to be sure, especially in the moments of unplanned performances.

"With so many template films and TV shows being produced that aren't worth watching, American Classic stands out even more. I highly recommend this show and congratulate the entire cast for wonderful performances, but especially mister Kline, who absolutely sets the bar on great acting!"

Someone else described it as "wonderfully entertaining and heartfelt", while another fan questioned "How can you beat this cast?

"It's all well acted, solidly directed," they continued. "There's a heart to it which works well."

Another viewer enthused: "The cast, the story....a microcosm of the world in a way we need right now. I love the tone, quality, character driven storytelling...each episode is better than the last!

"Everyone's journey, in this multi-generational ensemble, is worthy and real in a way that has me hooked. I've had enough of "Trauma TV" - Thank you AMERICAN CLASSIC for bringing us something wonderful to watch. More please!!!"

Professional critics have equally been full of praise, awarding the series a remarkable 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

Brittany Frederick wrote in her A+ review: "The MGM+ comedy American Classic deserves a standing ovation.

"It's perfectly cast and written so sincerely, with genuine laughs but just as much genuine emotion... It's some of the best comedy in years."

Fancying a warm yet touching drama that'll have you rushing to book West End tickets before the closing credits? MGM+ has exactly what you need this weekend.

American Classic continues Saturdays on MGM+ via Prime Video.
